A great scene. I read a letter from Maman to Paul in which she says that I am once again extremely ill, that she is in despair, etc. etc.
[Manuscript: pp. 104–126 torn out]
I set myself to reading all these absurdities, I work myself up and cannot stop. It is dreadful. But am I wrong — that is to say, am I unjust?

Notes

Marie's own spelling: "insannités" for "insanités."
