Diary of Marie Bashkirtseff

Biasini was at our house and we went to see the new house of Comte Starzinsky; it is not quite finished. Biasini has talent — that is what I say after having seen this house. He himself was proud of his work. It is grand, it is bright, it is spacious. All the reception rooms communicate. In short, this house is beautiful enough to make me wish to have it instead of ours, and to make me desire with ardour the building of our own drawing rooms.
It is raining — proof that the season is advancing. At the music, nothing except the Durands. Lucie Durand has become elegant since her sister's marriage. They would dearly like Emile d'Audiffret, but some quarrel between old Emile, his wife, and old Mme Durand has separated them. I believe Saetone is playing the role of mediator at present and will bring about a reconciliation.
